Epimedium. This is one of the best groundcovers ever. Mostly evergreen, it turns all kinds of great color in the fall, those great leaves cling to the plant. Grows to 12 inches tall by 2 -3 ft. wide. Heart shaped leaves or shield shaped leaves. Cut the old leaves off in spring so that the darling fairy-like flowers can enchant you. They are like miniature daffodils in shape. And they come in various colors of pale yellow, pale peachy, pale lavendar, white.

Euonymous 'Emerald Gaiety' Little white and green shrubby groundcover. 

Sweet Woodruff or Galium odoratum is another great groundcover. This one blooms in spring.
